Great product with very helpful customer service. Very helpful especially when going up stairs. I would definitely recommend getting the charging block that they recommend, as normal chargers will take a very long time to charge it.
Only had the Hypershell for about 3 weeks.
Used mostly cycling but will try it walking soon. Have rheaumatoid arthritis so this helps a lot. Strange at first wearing it but you soon get used to it. Look forward to future development. Thx hypershell!!
I have a form of muscular dystrophy.
I saw the HyperShell earlier this year during rehab when another patient was using it, and I got the chance to try it myself.
After that, I decided to buy the Ultra version for €2000. For me, this isn’t a gadget or a toy—it’s a real everyday aid.
My walking has improved significantly, and I feel much safer on my feet. Tripping is basically no longer an issue for me. Especially when it comes to longer distances, I can handle them much more comfortably now, which used to be quite difficult. I’m genuinely very happy to have this exoskeleton.
Another thing I really like is the app. I usually use Eco mode at around 40–45%. When I notice my strength dropping or when I’m walking longer distances, I increase it to about 55–60%. At that point, it honestly feels like I’ve got my old strength back, and going for walks becomes really enjoyable.
There are also quite a lot of settings you can adjust—for example, how quickly the exoskeleton responds to your movement (latency). You can also fine-tune the level of assistance between your legs, which is extremely helpful if one side is weaker than the other.
Something that gives me a strong sense of safety is that the exoskeleton doesn’t just move on its own. When I take a step, the other leg doesn’t automatically follow—it only moves when I actively initiate it. That means I can stop at any time without the system continuing to move. That’s exactly what makes it feel so reliable in everyday life.
That said, there are two important things to keep in mind: unfortunately, in Germany health insurance doesn’t cover it, and neither does pension insurance. And even though walking becomes much easier, you shouldn’t underestimate the strain. With the support, you’re actually pushing beyond your usual physical limits.
This means your balance, joints, and weakened muscles still have to absorb a lot of the load, even if the exoskeleton helps with lifting your legs. Especially after longer outings, I can definitely feel in the evening that I’m more exhausted overall than I would be without it.
Still, my day-to-day life has become much easier. Curbs, inclines, or even walking downhill—all of it feels more controlled and safer, since the exoskeleton also provides a kind of gentle braking support.
€2000 is obviously a lot of money—I’m fully aware of that. But for people like me living with muscular dystrophy, that perspective changes quickly. Alongside medications and other challenges, this is an investment that pays off every single day—because it gives me back a significant piece of freedom and allows me to move around outside more independently and safely again.
For me personally, the advantages clearly outweigh the downsides.
Not cheap but worth it for me , have ms and problem walking but this make me go faster and further than i have done in years.
Charging hub has good quality and works well.
Wish I bought theses sooner, I have sustained a spinal injury effecting my mobility walking and these have brought back my freedom to walk further than I have in the last two years since having my surfing accident. I have 20% function in my left leg and these have made me feel some what normal and halfed my pain trying to walk. Truly life changing. Thank you
I bought a Hypershell X Ultra a month ago and this review describes my experience of walking both in the flat East Mdlands and a long weekend in the Cheviot hills in Northumberland. I am a 72 year old male and consider myself fairly fit despite Cardiac problems and taking Beta Blockers. Walking ~10 miles on level ground is not a problem but as soon as I encounter uphill sections, I become very short of breath. Since I have always enjoyed hill walking it is embarrassing that I could not keep up with walking companions (and being overtaken by small children) and there is a limit to how often one can get away with the “looking at the view” whilst resting! Having seen reviews for Hypershell I hoped that it would help on uphill sections of walks and allow me to enjoy the landscape rather than gasping for breath.
Whilst not a panacea, the Hypershell makes a significant improvement for me and is thus a success. It works best when one walks with a regular gait so on road sections and steady inclines including fairly steep hills. On sections where I would have had to stop several times over 1 or 2 miles I can now manage without stopping. It is much less help for me when scrambling is required or on very uneven ground – indeed I find it best to turn it off on those sorts of terrains. Luckily my preference is for walking on rolling hills and moors rather than climbing, which appear much more suitable for the Hypershell’s capabilities.
Battery life, with which I was concerned, is good and although I do take a spare battery, I have not yet had to use it but I turn it off on flat and downhill sections to extend the range. I have found the controls a little awkward and I am unable to see the indicator LEDs whilst walking. The Bluetooth phone app works well and provides greater control and a very useful indication of the state of the Hypershell, but I would prefer not to keep pulling out a phone during walks. I am hoping that with practice using the control button sequences will become more familiar.
It is surprisingly comfortable to wear even for extended periods but I am unable to use it with a conventional rucksack with a hip belt, as they interfere with each other and the Hypershell tends to slip down and becomes both less effective and uncomfortable. My solution is a very much smaller and lighter day sack without a hip strap which is probably adequate for summer walking but may be a problem on higher hills in the winter where I would be more confident when carrying extra layers/equipment.
During my earlier testing I noticed that my normal walking gait improved. It appears that I had started to shuffle rather than walk and others confirmed this (but had not mentioned it). Wearing the Hypershell improved my gait and this effect persisted without conscious effort on my part. I know people with MS in the area who have tried a Hypershell and found it useful in re-patterning their walking with beneficial effects.
Conclusion. For me, the Hypershell was worth the cost and has opened up a range of new opportunities. I would say, however, that the effectiveness would depends on your specific requirements and capabilities. It is important to realise that it is an aid to walking but you still have to put the effort as it just does a little more of what you are already doing.
i had my doubts but this bit of kit is fantastic, it gives me the extra boost i need, having being diagnosed with Parkinsons i struggle at times but the exoskeleton gives me the confidence i need to go the extra, the only thing i would say is it needs a chest strap to give it support and hold it at the correct height i had one made, it will be very interesting to see how the type of equipment moves forward
Great for supporting weak muscles. Due to a neuro-immune-deficiancy, I have muscle weakness, so that walking is only possible for a few steps before complete muscular exhaustion. With Hypershell X, I can walk far more.
Additionally, I am using the Hypermode for maximum support. In addition, I activate the LSSC mode in the Hypershell-App for additional stabilizing support (not sure, if all models do that, I am using the Hypershell X Ultra).
The customer support is top tier – very friendly, respectful and supportive and very eager to really help me when I needed something.
The material quality of the device is exceptional. The only thing which, unfortunately, seem lower in quality, are the straps; the clasp on the hip belt seems to be standard plastic and difficult to tighten while wearing, so re-adjusting needs unbuckling, re-adjusting and then a difficult closing due to tighter strap. It would be great to have a high quality clasp like on a trekking backpack with a high quality buckle/clasp (for example like belt straps from the backpack brand "Deuter").
All in all, a great product with unbelievable physical support, great quality, and exceptional customer support.
Using your wonderful product
Have needed using a walker past few years with hypershell no longer need the walker.thank you for developing your wonderful hypershell.
I have difficulty walking more than short distances because of weak hip flexors (due to MS). The Hypershell Exoskeleton seemed like a good tool to help me walk more and better. And it has worked! The tweaks to operation using the App (adjuisting the power and timing of the boost and apportioning it between the left and right legs) have been invaluable for making it work for me. So far, I have doubled my walking distance (from a bit over half a mile to 1.3 miles), and I hope to go further as my legs get stronger.
My only complaint has been that the canvas tightening straps are a bit hard to use.
Great tool for hiking the big Mountainsit’s a great time to be alive
The Hypershell unit has performed beautifully! I have a genetic degenerative nerve condition affecting my legs which has so far left me with a shuffling gait using a cane or walking sticks. With the Hypershell on hyper mode I have a stride that matches my wife. For the first time in years I’ve need able to walk alongside my wife through our town.
The only negative is that I can’t get the phone app past the intro section- it’s stuck at the hyper mode and will not progress into the main body shown in promotional videos.
Surprisingly energy transfer to the machine.
After much deliberation and watching a ton of videos I decided to pull the trigger on this purchase. I have to say it's been a game changer for me. I have MS and have mobility issues. This has given me my life back. I am now able to walk over a mile with out stopping. Previously this would've taken many many breaks if even at all possible.
Only had one walk out with it so far. It took a little while to setup correctly with waist and leg adjustments. She wasn't sure what she was meant to feel or notice with it on. Thankfully it was not too heavy as that would have put her off using it. The first walk she managed well and noticed she was quicker than usual. We tried the last 200 yards of thewalk turning the machine off. That was when she really noticed the difference and was desperate to have it switched on again. That seems to tally with the experience of others. She is self conscious of wearing it but the benefits seem to be winning her over. She has promised to persist with using it.
I bought this to myself, i have hemiparesis, and i wanted to see if this would help me with walking. It really does. My fysiotherapist also sees the improvement in my movement. Im happy i decided to try this. I recommend you to try it yourself.
Love my hypershell.
Great device, well supported, the people I interacted with at the company were really friendly and easy to deal with.
